- Selank is described for anxiety and irritability without sedation, which is why the two are so often paired.
- Both have regulatory approval in Russia, which people frequently misread as equivalent to Western trial evidence.

What the research shows
- Most published research is Russian-language, small, and often not placebo-controlled or independently replicated.
- Semax mechanistic work reports BDNF and dopaminergic modulation in animal models; the cognitive claims rest largely on this rather than on robust human trials.
- Selank research reports anxiolytic effects with GABAergic and immune-modulating mechanisms, again mostly in small studies and animal models.
- Cognitive and mood outcomes are highly susceptible to expectancy effects, so uncontrolled reports carry very little evidential weight here.

How it is reported to be used
- Intranasal administration is the dominant reported route for both, and it is the route most of the source literature uses.
- Reported use is short cycles on demanding days or weeks rather than continuous, with effects described within an hour and fading the same day.
- Nasal irritation, transient fatigue after the effect fades, and headache are the most commonly reported complaints.
