Overview
Epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) derives from work on epithalamin, a pineal gland extract studied in the Soviet Union and Russia from the 1970s onward.
Reported effects on telomerase, melatonin rhythm and lifespan come from that research tradition. The absence of independent replication and modern trial reporting is the central problem with the evidence, not the age of the studies alone.

Mechanism of Action
Laboratory work suggested it may influence the enzyme that maintains the protective ends of chromosomes, and the pineal gland's melatonin rhythm.
Proposed mechanisms include induction of telomerase reverse transcriptase expression in somatic cell culture, epigenetic effects via short-peptide binding to promoter regions, and restoration of pineal melatonin secretion in aged animals. These mechanisms are not corroborated by contemporary independent work.

Evidence Summary
