What Does “Research Use Only” Mean?

A declared intended use, not a quality or safety statement.

Last reviewed September 1, 2026

Research use only signals that a product is offered for laboratory or scientific research and not for diagnosis or treatment. It is a commercial and regulatory category.

It carries no requirement that the product was tested for identity, purity or sterility, and no regulator has reviewed it for effectiveness.

What to verify instead

Documentation is the only available signal: a dated certificate of analysis from a named independent laboratory, matching the batch identifier on the vial, reporting both identity and purity.
