Research Storage Concepts

Cold, dark, dry and documented.

Last reviewed September 1, 2026

Lyophilised material is generally stored cold and dark, with long-term storage colder than working storage. Reconstituted solution has a much shorter useful life and is normally refrigerated.

The variable that matters most is consistency. A stable temperature is more protective than a low set point that cycles.

Documentation as a storage practice

Recording the reconstitution date, diluent, volume and resulting concentration on the vial converts guesswork into a record. Without it, a vial found weeks later has unknown contents.
