Half-Life: How Long a Compound Actually Persists
Half-life determines how often something is studied, how quickly it clears, and how long any effect can plausibly last.

Half-life is the time taken for the concentration in blood to fall by half. Short half-lives mean rapid clearance; long half-lives mean accumulation toward a steady state over repeated administration.
Why some peptides last minutes and others a week
Natural peptides are cleared quickly by enzymes and the kidneys. Pharmaceutical peptides with weekly administration achieve that through modification — fatty-acid chains that bind albumin, or fusion to larger carriers — which slows clearance dramatically.
This is why a modified analogue and its natural counterpart can behave completely differently despite similar sequences.
Half-life is not duration of effect
A compound can be cleared long before its biological consequences resolve, and it can persist in blood while producing no measurable effect. Concentration and effect are related but separate curves.
When a summary uses half-life to justify a schedule, check whether the underlying study measured effect duration or only concentration.
