How to Read a Certificate of Analysis
A COA is only as good as the batch number, the laboratory name and the date printed on it.
A certificate of analysis reports what a laboratory measured in a specific sample. Four fields determine whether it means anything: what was tested, who tested it, when, and which batch.
Identity and purity are different tests
Mass spectrometry answers whether the molecule is what it claims to be. HPLC answers what proportion of the sample is that molecule. A document showing only one answers only half the question.
Batch matching
A certificate for a different batch than the vial in hand is documentation of something else. Batch identifiers should match exactly.
